I have about decided to purchase a Guardian 5504 Standby Generator set but am having trouble figuring out how to mount the Transfer switch outdoors next to my panel box.
I have read a few post about putting it in a weatherproof box and also about removing the components and putting them in a NEMA 3R box.
Has anyone solved this problem before? I could sure use your help in making a decision.

Easiest solution: Put the entire switch inside a NEMA3R or 4x enclosure. Check out Hoffman boxes: hoffmanonline.com You could move the components, but you'll want to see if your inspector will let that fly - if you move the components to a separate enclosure you'll no longer have a UL listing.

Just finished doing the set-up you're asking about. Got the outdoor enclosure and put the transfer switch in there.
Works great. There's a learning curve but with some homework and the asking of questions it's really not that hard to do.

Chuck,
Thanks for the reply. What did you use for the outside enclosure; where did you obtain it? I would love to see a few pictures of your setup.

Mine is a B-Line 3020P. The transfer switch that came with my 5242 Guardian (13,000 watt) fits perfectly. You do have to drill your own holes for the conduit but that was pretty easy with a hole saw.
I have some pics I just took but they seem too big to post here. If anyone has suggestions how to post them I'm listening.
Thanks!

Use an image editor to resize them smaller. You can use the free program Irfanview.

Thanks for the info on this. I've got the pictures so I'll see if I can get them posted. If not they can be e-mailed.
Take care.
