I am looking at getting a generac XP8000E. I have noticed that the model number is 5931 and that it retails for over 2k at most online retailers. Lowes home improvement has an XP800E for around 1300. Is it the same generator? if not what is the difference between the two? thanks

The unit at Lowes is the Generac XG8000E while the other one is the Generac XP8000E.

Open both of the links and do some careful comparing. They are different. One thing I noticed right away is the XP has electric start and the XG does not.

That's the exact price that I found them selling the XG8000E for. Actually, if you look at that linked page down in the "Customers also viewed" section you'll see the XG8000E shown there.

I would suggest that you call Lowes to confirm what their ads are saying. Please let us know what you find out.

I will go to my local lowes this weekend. I know they had one on display but it sold during the hurricane. I know it was $1350, but I don;t know if it was an XG or an XP. I will let you know.

Just be careful. They can say what they want but the mfg. make lower end equipment to sell in the big box stores. First it is a Generac. Then it is a lower end Generac. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. And don't forget if you buy a generator and it screws up they will NOT take it back. They will send you to one of their authorized repair centers. If they determine you did something incorrectly you owe the bill for service.

That is a good point ceb58. The engine on several models in the 6.5 to 8kw range look like honda engines. That's about all I can comment on that subject except for seeing one engine failure so far and Generac replaced the engine under warranty.

I went to one local Lowes store and they were still sold out. The tag on the rack says it's an XP8000E, but it also says it is 8k running, 12k starting. The XP800E that is on the generac website says 8k running, 10k starting. So there is obviously a difference. I will try another local store tomorrow.

I went to the other local lowes store and they were sold out also. They had the tag for it on the rack. It also said XP8000E, with a 410cc engine, 8k running, 12k starting. Same as the other store. Like CEb said, they must be making a lower end unit for lowes.

I found this interesting and know there are manufacturers that build lower end products to capture the box store market, but it looks like the XP8000E and XG8000E that Lowes has is the the same model number and specs as the Generac site, but from what I understand not all Lowes carry the XP model.

Reason I was concerned is because I ordered my GP17500E through Home Depot web site(not carried in store). It was shipped today from Wisconsin, so I called Generac and they assured me it is the same unit ,that its not a lesser manufactured model.

I'll keep checking Lowes from time to time....I'm sure they'll get one in sooner or later.

I did find some information on the xp8000e. The new model number is 5931. There is another xp8000e--model number 5606. This was the one Lowes was selling. I'm not sure if Generac is still going to make it or if Lowes will still carry it if they do make it. I am thinking this is an older model, although I did find the spec sheet off the generac website.

Lowes finally started getting in some generators. They do have an XG8000E. It's sitting on the floor under the small tag that says XP8000E. I asked the guy working there and he had no idea if they were going to get any XP's in. I do see them for sale occasionally on CList for around 1k occasionally. If I do find an XP at Lowes I'll let you guys know.
