So I have been using sar30 in my XP8000e and it now has 70 hours on it. I am planning on doing a service on it and would like to switch to synthetic. What brand anf weight do people use for year round use? I am in NY Long Island. I have been told 5w30, 10w30, and Shell Rotella T6 5w40. I use Mobil1 in all my trucks, not sure if thats good.  Thanks

The rotella t6 is excellent oil, and the 5w40 should cover all temperatures.
Mobil 1in 5w30 would be my second choice.
Either are very high quality oils.

You've been using straight 30w, which is much thicker at low temps than 5w40.
the W denotes the low temp viscosity of the oil, I think at 0 deg f, so a 5w40 covers a very wide temperature range.
The higher viscosity at high temps creates a tougher film to protect the bearings.
Unless these engines are built with EXTREMELY tight  tolerances, the 5w40 should work fine.
If the manufacturer recommends 5w30 only, I'd recommend the Mobil 1.
