I was having issues with my 8KW starting. Not starting, backfiring and such. After reading this tread I checked and low and behold, the bellows(?) (Air intake to the, I guess, mixing chamber ?) was off at one end, looks in good condition just the clamps would not hold it in place. I took off the factory clamps and installed gear clamps instead. I will check tomorrow, once the set has cooled down to see if it is any better (Fingers crossed). If it does, Thank you, thank you, thank you !!

Nope still a problem.

Is it still starting/running poorly or are you still having trouble keeping the bellows on?

Do you have a model/serial? The new 8kws don't have the cracking bellows issue like the older 7kws. The hose will slip off the carb/airbox though. It may have been blown off if you are still having issues with it running properly.

How long has it been in use without problems? Regular maintenace such as valves/spark plug? Some of the 8kws had a SIB out and needed airbox gaskets or even airboxes. I had one 8kw that needed a new ignition coil after exhibiting rough running and then failure to start or long cranking followed by a backfire.

Throw us some more info and answer 78buckshot's question. Maybe we can point you in a direction?

It is staying in place since I installed the Gear Clamps, but the starting issues remain.

History
Model # 0055260. Serial # 5106460 , Installed in late 2008, 140 hours on it, 5/8" Propane line, I believe, feeding it, The fresh air intake(bellows?) is fimly attached, I changed the oil with the suggested rating Synthetic oil and changed the spark plug a month or so ago because it was acting up, with no change. Everything inside looks as new. I have not done a valve setup as of yet. It was working fine up till this past summer but it seems to have gotten worse. Now, when attempting to start it, like you say cranks for quite some time then backfires, cranks then backfires,,,, then cuts out on overcrank. Sometime it will eventually start and seems to run fine, though I believe the valves need to be setup.

With 140 hours and no valve adjustment I would start with the adjustment. You could still be looking at an ignition magneto or fuel pressure issue if the problem seems to come and go at times. Typically if something mechanical is out of adjustment and causing problems if will exhibit the same behavior each cycle.

Thank you very much d11gnccer !! I set up the valves ( they were very tight ), put it back together, tried it and Voila it started right up. Turned it off and set the exercise cycle and again it started right up, only about three revolutions.

Much appreciated, Sir. You saved me a fair bit of money and aggravation.

I have a customer with an 8kw off grid. The unit needs a valve adjustment every 100 hours or so or it wont start. The propane fuel seems to wear the valve seats quickly.
