Trying to update firmware from version 1.09 to 1.20.  When I try to do it through wifi it says all updates are good but it still has version 1.09.  When I try to use the flashdrive it says file not found.  I just put the latest firmware on the flashdrive.  Anybody else have this problem?

If you have not, try formatting the flash drive first then put your file back on. I had this issue and it resolved it it.

Thanks for the reply.  I did format the flashdrive.

You have a evolution2 controller. V1.09 IS the latest firmware. Your trying to install evolution 1 software. This would be a bad thing. Luckily the controller would not install it.

OK  thanks.  Guess ill have to get more educated on that.  So you need different flashdrives for the evo 1 controller and evo 2 controller?  This generator has twice faulted out on undervoltage at approximatly 1 min and 3 seconds.  I thought the generator was supposed to run at least 4 minutes before it would fault out undervoltage.  I went to the generator twice and cleared the code and ran it in manual and the voltage was correct and it never faulted out.  Not sure what to tell the customer.

You are apparently ignoring the fact that EVO 1 and EVO 2 are different controllers and have their own software requirements.  Your EVO 2 controller already has the latest software as grsthegreat just mentioned.

Yes on 2 different versions of software. What is the error code it flashed. The cold start enabled is set to on unless you select to not use it during activation.

Cold start is enabled.  That is why I cant figure out why it faulted out undervoltage at 1 min 3 seconds.

It did this twice now.

Need the error code to look any farther. It is odd though.  Does the generator run normal in manual mode, and if so can you verify output from generator when its running properly

So you need different flashdrives for the evo 1 controller and evo 2 controller? ANSWER: This is a WiFi ready unit. If you are WiFi connected the EVO 2 controller will receive automatic updates.

Forgot the actual error code just remember undervoltage.  Both times though after i cleared the code and started it in manual the output voltage was correct at the MLCB.

and if its not connected to wifi, you need 2 separate flash drives..actually 3 if you want to include Synergy/g flex updates

Got it. Thanks

I have had a problem in the past with a poor connection on the sensing wires from the stator at the connector (not sure what they call this particular type of connector) causing intermittent undervoltage.   The pin had pushed back and I happened to see arching while I was moving the wires around looking for the problem.  This was not the connection directly to the Evo 1 controller, it is a 4 wire connector with #2,#6,#11S, #44s.

I use 3 updates, Evo 1, 2, Air and Evo Liquid, and I have all 3 on one single flash drive.  The controller knows which one it wants.
State your problem, not your diagnosis.

Really, I never had the guts to try that. When I asked rep at Generac they told me to use separate flash drives. Now that I know you can use 1, I may do that also. Just less things to carry in briefcase.

All 4 can be put on the same flash drive if you want.
They all have different file exchanges that the controller recognizes. I still use 4 different flash drives.
VEvo is Synergy
OEvo is Evo 2
Evo is Evo 1
LCEvo is Protector

Just wondering.
Is there a way to backup the currently installed firmware before loading an update, and can the earlier version be reinstalled in case something doesn't work properly with the new version?

I ask because I have a custom installation which could be affected by an update, if it were to change certain behavior.

Thanks,  David

That just blew my mind. In every training class I've been to they have made it very clear that any deviation from the procedure outlined in downloading firmware to a flash drive (1 file per usb) would cause the controller to brick. Thanks for that info!

I thought remembered that from class. I wasn't brave enough to say it. I knew all you bright techs would get to it!!
