The manual says the replacement oil filter is 070185E, but if I look at the Generac store it lists 070185DS.

Does the last two letters (E vs DS) cause any issues with compatibility?  Also, wondering if people use Generac filters or whether they go 3rd party?

E is a long filter, a little extra capacity in volume and filtering. You are on your own with other brands, I know it is done as I have found them on machines that have been serviced by others. We use only Generac kits to protect us and the end user.

So it sounds like I can use either the E or DS without issue as long as the number 070185 matches?

I see 070185ES filters on Amazon, they look to be longer.  Are the E and the ES essentially the same?

E & ES are the same (different packaging). I think the "D" series has been discontinued and replaced by the "E".

I believe the D may still be around for some portables that require it. It is simply a shorter filter that is sometimes needed when a portable frame may prohibit the E filter being used. Yes they are all the same thread. I would only use a Generac filter if you are under warranty. We only sell and use Generac filters.

I also recall reading a post several years ago on this forum explaining that, unlike many third party filters, the Generac brand filter has no bypass. So, if the filter gets clogged, the low oil pressure shut down activates.  Whether or not this is a desirable feature is a user's decision to make.

It has a bypass, you can see right through the hole just like any other filter.  If it were to get clogged the oil pump would tear through the media like wet tissue paper and shrapnel the engine.  Low oil pressure switch would never activate.

Generac oil filters seem to be ready available except for the CorePower one that I have .  Have found several substitutes but can go to the Home Depot and purchase  a tune up kit . About 25$.  Contains air filter and spark plug that are really not needed at every oil change  . A good solid filter. So I will keep using it . Can never have enough plugs or air filers I guess.
