I recently received a new air filter for my 22KW Generac. The filter part # is 0J8478, and while it is the same number as the old filters (white paper) this one has yellow paper baffles. This new type filter has solved my engine "RPM hunting" problems by apparently allowing more air to pass through. Definitely an improvement!

Problem is that now that I have it I'm not sure how to order more. Nothing in the part number differentiates it from the old filters. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does it look any different?

The white pleated filter does not sound like Generac parts for air cooled, I wonder if it was aftermarket or wrong from the factory. The yellow/orange filter is standard equipt. for all the current air cooled. Most of the liquid cooled units will use a white one.

Only the color of the pleats.

Both myself and a neighbor ordered generators at the same time in January. Both came with the white pleated filter. In Feb I complained to Generac about the RPM "hunting" and they sent a replacement filter. Again, it was a white pleated filter. Both color filters have the same part number.

I only found out about the yellow/orange filter after a local dealer showed up with one. I'm calling Generac to day to see if they can sort this out.

The white filter was original equipment since the evolution was introduced in 2013. The yellow filters just came out this year after battling the hunting issue for a couple of years!

All of the maintenance kits that I've used have had the orange filters as far back as I can remember, white ones are news to me.

Air filters. Not oil filters

I guess it depends on what we are classifying as "white", the pleats have a yellow tint in my eyes but I suppose you could call it white.

I was going to make a post about this as well. I received my new air filter and was surprised how yellow the thing was compared to the one that came with the generator last year. I actually thought it might have been old stock. But the unit seems to be running well with it. Have not had any hunting.

The yellow pleated filter on the bottom is the one I'm searching for. I think (and Generac customer service has been of no help on this) the yellow filter is a 0J8478S. The "S" suffix is the key, and appears to be the latest upgrade.

However, I ordered a J8478S from Amazon and got a filter similar to the one on top. This is not going to help my engine hunting.

If anyone can help me with info as to where to find the yellow pleated filters I would sure appreciate!! I need one today.
