I don't know about the year made/registered but if you purchased the gen and Xfr SW as a set, then both are covered by extended warranties.

Be sure to contact Ziller for a warranty quote. The mass mail adds at least $100 to the price.

Bummer, my deadline was May 29th. I was under the impression that the dealers were not allowed to sell a warranty after the 1 year mark.

I have a couple questions regarding the extended warranty. Generac's terms and conditions state they will not cover any models earlier than a 2014 model. I installed my unit in 2013, my unit's Model#: G0062410 and Serial Number: 8292763. Is this a 2014 model? I ask as I received Generac's extended warranty offer both via e-mail and regular mail and if mine is a 2013 model why would I be offered the extended warranty.

Also, does the extended warranty cover the transfer switch?

I have 6244 purchased in 2013 and I received the letter and email.

Interesting. I have the same generator as Pville and mine was installed by a licensed Generac dealer on October 18, 2013. Paul’s serial number is 8292763 whereas mine is 8378065. I would assume by the numbering sequence that my unit was manufactured after Paul’s. However, I wasn’t contacted regarding an extended warranty offer. This whole extended warranty offer seems to be somewhat less than organized.

The deadline seems to be a moving target. They are now sending out round two that I know of. Deadline on my letter received on 6/1/17 is 6/26/17. My unit was initialized Sept 2016

Gene, mine was installed August 5, 2013, I received the extended warranty offer first via e-mail, about two weeks ago, and then by postal mail last week. They may be sending the offer out based upon activation date so you'll probably get something soon.

The extended warranty sales is being handled by a company called Afterinc. Looks like Generac has hired them to do the extended warranty sales work. I found this out after sending a couple inquiry e-mails on Generac's generac.power-plans.com website. My questions were answered not by a Generac employee but by an Afterinc employee. However, they are acting as a representative of Generac.

I usually do not buy extended service/warranty contracts but did so this time due to all the different major components of the generator - engine, alternator, control board, transfer switch, etc. I opted to buy the plan as it breaks down to about $142 a year for the remaining 6+ years of coverage. Still cheaper than buying a completely new genset if anything major ever happened.

I may be assuming, (and we know what that word assume stands for) but I must assume my unit is a 2014 model as Generac offered the extended warranty to me, and they should know as they manufactured it. If at some point they say it's a 2013 model and refuse to do warranty work then I'll ask for the money I paid for the extended warranty back as that would be fraud and misrepresentation for them to offer and sell it with their knowing what model year it is being the manufacturer.

Another oddity about this... Generac is actually hurting future sales by targeting owners with older units who might otherwise consider replacing their generators before they reach the 10 year mark.

Extended warranty offers included when shopping for a new generator are an incentive to purchase a Generac, but targeting those who already bought one is really an incentive to NOT buy another until the existing unit reaches 10 years of age.

Most people probably expect their generator to last 10 years, but those most likely to replace it sooner, due to problems they have had, heavy usage, extreme dependency, or just paranoia - now can buy the warranty and not feel motivated to buy a new unit.

You may very well be right, Paul. Your unit was installed before mine and once again, going just by the serial number sequencing, it appears as though it was manufactured before mine as well.

Kershner’s unit on the other hand is a much newer unit and was installed in 2016 and therefore I think I’m safe in saying that it was manufactured after our units.

Just going by what I’m seeing thus far, If Afterinc has some sort of method by which they’re offering the warranty, it seems as though it’s to start at the far ends of the eligibility period and work toward the middle.

Thus far, my unit has run really well and if anything, got better after I adjusted the valves. Two were somewhat loose and two were tight. Now they’re all right on the money. Runs great! They always do…..right up to the point when they don’t! :D

I’ll let the forum members know if and when I receive an offer.

Regards,

Gene

P.S.
I saw UPS's post earlier and forgot to include in my message that his unit is a 2013 vintage unit as well and he also received the offer. Appears to be no rhyme or reason to their approach regarding contacting people. Time will tell, I guess.

If you are in WI, you will also get zapped with the sales tax on the warranty. Last I read on the forum, the dealers can't sell the warranty to after the fact people or did that change? I hope not because then I feel like a horse's behind.

Generac dealers can sell the 10 year to customers with evo units that are over one year old. Generac also increased the dealer price of that warranty drastically. That was never mentioned in the conference call. They probably just forgot that the price was going up.

Never mind, got it from factory.

Got another email from them today.
They are really pushing this hard.

Including the mail that was sent out, I've probably received three emails about the same thing now.

I have a homeowner who has called and left 3 messages trying to buy an extended warranty, but can't get a call back. Hope I gave him the correct number. Mike

I called the number during business hours, hit the prompt for warranties and the first person who answered took my money right then and there.

I still haven't heard from Generac regarding the extended warranty (although I did get a couple of emails in which they offered to sell me a pressure washer for father's day).

Now that Bill posted the phone number maybe I'll give them a call. At least it appears as though I have a possible option now.

Chris, is the extended warranty option available through Ziller??

Gene

Another letter today

I had not responded to the previous letter and emails, and today just received another letter with the same end of coverage date - 10 yrs from activation. But this offer is good until July 10. Price is the same $895, or 4 payments of $224.75.

The letter is the same as the first one, except they changed the "coverage for" description. In the first letter it was "HKW AC PREPACK HSB 60 HZ" and in this "20KW/999 GUARD+ 200A SE AL"

The extended warranties are available through Ziller, however we've been set on the sidelines in regards to providing them after the 1 year activation mark... If you are within the 1 year mark, I would advise calling or emailing me for a price on them. ;)

We have the option to sell after the one year mark. Check your dealer site.

They don't have access to Dealer Connection I believe. Since they're e-commerce.

So, that's two mailings and a few emails sent.

I have been wondering about this warranty, but am concerned by the "normal wear and tear" exclusion mentioned in the details about what they will NOT cover by the warranty.
Along with the other exceptions, it would seem that the warranty might be useless.

However, I am still interested because my unit sounds like it is missing during the last few test periods, and once during a brief power outage. It worked fine the first two years, but a month ago the installer came for a two year service and it has not run smoothly since. After two more return calls, it is as bad as ever. He suggested that the gas company needed to replace some regulator, but I have not called them yet, partly because the unit worked fine for two years during outages.

Any thoughts on the above?

Sounds like you may need a new dealer... If the unit isn't running correctly, I'd be asking why, specifically. Is it a fuel pressure problem, or is it internal to the unit. Could be a pinched fuel line or something, or a misaligned fuel pin or air filter. If the problems happened after a maintenance, did he use the correct plugs? Miss-adjust the valves?
