so i tested and ran the new 14 kw natural gas gen set ~ 1 hour ...

the oil on dip stick is right add the add oil spot on end of dip stick ,,, the last hole at end of dip stick.. it started out exactly full mark on dip stick .

so is it normal to go from full , to add oil mark in first hour of running new gen set ?

thanks again , Joe

In my opinion, that is not normal. You may have been burning oil or losing it due to a leak.

Pull the plugs and see if they are still a nice clean white to light tan or fouled with oil. If the plugs are fouled, oil could be getting past the piston rings.

Examine all surfaces of the engine system for any signs of leaking oil. Pull the air cleaner cover and look in there as well.

Did you run the generator for a few minutes (to fill the filter) and then check the level? If the generator's engine had never been run at all (even at the factory) the filter could have been dry and that would take some oil from the crankcase.

Re-fill the crankcase (with conventional oil, NOT synthetic during the break-in period) and test for any more oil loss.

Great thought.

I fill car oil filters with oil prior to installing them. It's surprising how much oil a dry filter can absorb.
