Found a used generac offered.  Said to be 16kw 2012 model number OH4653.  But that seems to be the engine number.

I will be getting more from the seller, but, mean time, can I find the generator specs from that number?  What needs to be looked at for a used unit?

Any thoughts on a reasonable price range?

Turns out to be Model: 5243.   Any place to find feedback on this model?  When it was produced?

Also, it has the LED rather than the LCD display, so I guess it is an earlier version.

Nothing wrong with the older models as long as it was maintained. Can you see it in action, start, transfer to load, handle the load well, re-transfer? Is the seller going to a larger unit?

Says he got a diesel generator.   Turns out he has no transfer panel, odd, since the model suggestst it was sold with one as a package.  And, it is supplied via a portable tank, grill type.   Claims that's all he ever had.

Since he is asking around 1500, this sounds a bit less like the good deal I had hoped.   I might go look at it anyway and make a lowball offer.

Generac has a find manuals location on their website. Enter your serial number here and every document available will come up.

He maybe could have gotten it running no load on a grill tank. He definitely could not have put any load on it or the regulator would have frozen solid. Sounds to me that it could have been starved for fuel running lean and hot.

that ser # doesnt bring up any year sold. Probably in the 2007-2008 year range. Was sold with 16 circuit transfer switch

Thanks for the comments and info.   Seems a bit dicey, so I will probably give it a miss.
