Hey y'all this is my first time on but I have reviewed alot of the posts on this site. I could not find anything that dealt with the High-temp light on my Generac 12kw LP gas standby generator. It is 14 years old. A little history if you don't mind. Installed in 04 and was diligent about oil change etc. replacing battery when it went dead. Well, (that's always a sign) I did not change oil for 4 years and my battery was almost 4 years old. The battery exploded last week. I bought a new battery and put it in after putting baking soda and water in battery compartment. It cranked up and ran as normal.
I stopped and started it and could not remember about the flashing red lights on the panel for setting the exercise time. Finally a you tube video gave me the clue. All that done and it was set and it ran as normal through a complete exercise cycle as far as I know. I went out to check it and the the "high-temp" light is on and it will not start in auto or manual. I can hear a "clicking" sound when I turn it off sound like a switch. So is this something I can possibly fix or do I need to call the repair people. Thanks.

If you changed the oil during that recent maintenance then you may have pulled the High temp wire off the Klixon behind the oil filter and it is touching ground or pinched the wire with the filter shorting it out. If none of these remove the wires from the heat sensor and see if it starts and runs OK, if it does replace the heat sensor. The battery exploding may have done other damage but I don't think it has anything to do with this.

Ok, so I did change oil and filter (synthetic of course) failed to mention that in previous post. I took the wire off and it started, ran about 5 seconds, stopped, started on its own again and ran for about 20 seconds (sounding all normal) then I stopped it. I reconnected the wire. Put in manual and it started and ran for about 30 seconds and stopped, high-temp light came on. So how difficult will it be to change and will oil leak from this sensor? And if that wasn't issue any other ideas? Thanks.

Oil will not leak it is a blind depression. If the wire isn't shorted to ground just replace the Klixon and your set.

Again, thanks. I tried to find "Klixon" through parts list not able to locate that. Anything more specific...part#, etc.
