May 5, 2011 7:42 a.m. | Waukesha-based Generac Holdings Inc. (GNRC) said Thursday that first-quarter earnings totaled $4.8 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with $2.5 million a year ago.

Sales were down 5.2% to $124 million, compared with $130.7 million a year ago.

"Our first quarter 2011 results were impacted by headwinds in our residential markets, partially offset by improving demand in our commercial and industrial markets," said Aaron Jagdfeld, Generac's president and CEO.
Jagdfeld noted that the company had pre-paid another $24.7 million in debt last month.
