Looking to do some maintenance to this unit, Maybe new hoses and distributor cap &rotor. Where can I find these parts? Just want to do PM before something breaks.

This is a 1.5L Mitsubishi engine. Parts are pretty hard to come by. For some reason the cap and rotor for this are several hundred dollars from Generac. If you find an alternative, let me know, haha! I can get you any of the parts you need, but it's going to be costly!

Why do they make parts so hard to find, cap and rotor should be less then $50.00. Are they trying to get us to update to newer model when it breaks? So what your saying if any thing major go wrong with engine you might want to junk it. I guess the next time I buy a generator will check on how easy parts are. Guess I can try and match the hoses.

The hoses may be cheap. Let me know what parts you want and I can price them in a PM on here. As I recall, the engine was an Australian Industrial version or something and so I think we're paying because you literally can't get them here in the US, or at least not easily.

Keep in mind, you're talking about a 20 year old engine here, not something that was used recently...

Thanks Chris
I guess when you put it that way, lucky to get any parts LoL
Maybe upper and lower Radiator hoses, small heater hose I should be able to get at local auto parts. Not sure what I would do if water pump went out? Its been a good unit, maybe if it quits I should look at a updated model.

Is this is the 1.5 liter Mitsubishi engine?

Engine model 4G15 found behind the starter, helps with parts sometimes.

Also there is what looks like a serial number there, never tried running it through a Mitsubishi industrial dealer.

Many of the parts on these fit from a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage.

Water pump, timing belt set, valve cover gasket all fit.

I suspect cap and rotor might fit as well.

I once came across one with a Mitsubishi PN for the whole distributor, T6T88171, I have some notes that might cross to MD618437 or maybe T6T87076 or T6T87074, that information is worth what you paid for it.

It looks like the Mirage engine with the head on 180 degrees backwards to me mostly.

When I have looked for the distributor before it seemed that the connection (a 2 wire deal on these that only uses 1 as a run wire) was much different and the actual mating mechanism to the cam was different. I'm going to look into those numbers though since I have an 1800 RPM version of this at my house with only 65 hours on it ;)

This is a unit that falls into the group of engines that “ If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I have one at my business and I don’t touch anything that isn’t broken badly.

I know what your saying Peddler,if it ain't broke why fix it. I think some things need PM, It is much easier fixing something in warm weather then in a Nor Easter coming off lake Huron in the winter. This unit was built in 2002,it has been well maintain but see some problems. The 0A5110 filler pipe has a lot of rust at the mounting bracket,I see a lot of units have had this pipe fail. I just think it would be wise to fix before it breaks. I think if I remove the pipe and clean the rust off and paint I would still have problem. All the parts are original except the VR. Maybe a little PM now will go long way when its needed.

What is different about it? Superficially the pictures look about the same to me.

I know the base distributor is a lot different because it has the timing in itself vs the car one where it is driven by the ECM but I do not see why the cap and/or rotor should be different, unless you ended up with one for a totally different model.

The generator cap has a rounded area on from side of cap with a long contact pin on it. I can take pictures of both caps if you want to see the difference. I have a friend that goes to Germany monthly, wonder if he could find one there. I have no idea on the part number.

I would love to know the difference. Also I was looking on this page, lots to choose from, and they all look similar. Is this what you got?

This is a closer match, had to use 1996

I dont think this will work because contacts are in different locations compared to generactor cap. Sure this will mess with the timing. I took a picture of generator cap but it is 5 mb,to large to post.
Thinking if you want a cap and rotor it will have to come from Generac

Now this is real close, hold down screws are offset of contacts, but I can't find just the cap and rotor.

Can anyone confirm this is the distributor part number T6T88171 ?

I have a good running one with that part number on it. Did you find a source for one?

Thanks Birken Vogt
Think I found a source, just need to confirm part number. I see no part number on my distributor? Where is the part number stamped?

Of the many of these I know of, all but one are painted black with no numbers visible. The one that has the number is unpainted aluminum and has a Mitsubishi sticker on it with this part number and other than the paint, it is identical to the rest.

Hello Birken, check this out. This is the best I can find. Let me know what you think, holding screws are offset of contacts.

On the ebay one. The cap looks the same as do the orientation of the electrical connector, coil prong thing, vacuum advance (unused). The cap screws are not oriented to the slotted hold down holes the same way but it might be camera angle. No capacitor on the ones I have seen.

Well I took the chance and ordered the eBay distributor, the cap and rotor fit perfect. My generator is back to a instant start. The internal parts look the same as the Generac distributor, hate to take the distributor off to check the base. For 57.00 dollars I got the whole distributor, thinking the other will work if needed. Does anyone have pics of the Generac distributor off showing the base? This distributor had the two wire hookup just like the Generator has. Now I need to find a thermostat and gasket, thinking might have to bite the bullet and get the Generac one. Got some small rust spots on the 18 year old unit, hate to pay 20.00 for 6 oz can of spray paint, has anyone found a close match with another brand? Just wanted to update this post in case someone needs a cap and rotor.

hey zplugger, your local auto zone has the spark plugs, plug wires, and I think the dist cap and rotor. I can get the part numbers if you need them. as far as thermostat, gasket, and rad cap has to be from generac
