I have a Generac 14KW model 55221 serial number 5719279 purchased July 8Th 2010. We just had a short power outage, everything worked fine. After the outage I went to the generator to see what the time outage was. My display will not work when I press the display all I get is the square blocks light up but no message can be read. I also noticed that the display area even when not lit is worm to the touch. Is there a way to clear this or has the display failed. If it is the display can I get the display through Generac under warranty and install it myself or do I have to find a local dealer to service the unit.

The unit is registered and you have an active warranty. I'd call someone out.

Remove the fuse and disconnect the battery for 20 minutes or so. It should reset.

Thanks for the information. I took the advice and called a new local dealer in Houston PA, Single Phase Electric. Don the owner was very helpful, took my information got an approval and replace the controller. I was very impressed with the professional service and repair in a very timely manner, especially when he was not involved with the sale. I could be wrong but I don't believe the display was ever as good as it is now!!

I was wondering if anyone has installed the newer 5951 monitor on a 2009 built generator. There is some discrepancy from different sources, Generators Direct states it will not work, Generacs instructions shows instructions for 2008 through 2010 built generators and 2010 and beyond. The plug is definitely in the controller. I don't want to buy the thing and find that it doesn't work.
