I am planning a site location for a generac 70331. The question I have for the forum is, are there any rules about locating the generator in front of a vent/air intake for a fireplace?
I would like to install the generator 2 feet from the house centered in front of the fireplace vent.

I would consider it the same as a window opening, 5'

The vent is an opening into the structure.  So if you choose to place the generator at that location, there will have to be a 5 foot minimum clearance from the generator enclosure to the fireplace vent.

Check your local ordinances as they will take precedence over all else.

I would consider taking that wall vent out and extending the pipe up and above the roof line. That would give you clearance, at least it seems that would be acceptable.

The direct vent for many appliances does not allow extensions, some may have a factory option but probably not to get far enough away from the intended generator location. The direct vent is considered a wall penetration and is intake and exhaust combined so five to ten feet is the normal range for clearance.

Here in Idaho i had a similar install and gas inspector mad me set unit 5' from vent. i used a tape from vent and measured from vent surface out 5'. the unit ended up being set to one side about 2-1/2 feet from house. i just pushed it off to one side enough so the tape measure made it 5 feet to top edge of generator. I was also not allowed to extend direct vent appliance. Just for my own piece of mind i placed exhaust end away from vent.
