I have a 17 kw Generac branded Carrier. The controller (0H06430) display shows CHECK BATTERY. The terminal board terminals connected to wire 13B and 0 measure 13.4 vdc with tender charger powered and 12.4 vdc with tender charger unpowered. Both look OK to me. Does anyone know what triggers the CHECK BATTERY display? The Owners Manual is silent on this issue.

I suspect the controller monitors the battery voltage while the unit is cranking, to get a better read on the battery's actual condition.
Even old batteries can read fine right off the charger, but have high internal resistance causing voltage to drop severely under load.

The "check Battery" is a yearly maintenance reminder. Check the electrolyte level in the cells, clean the terminals and posts, re-set the reminder by turning the control off, press enter, turn it back to auto. I will show up in 12 months.

Thanks Buckshot.
I guess I assumed too much.  LOL

Buckshot is right on the money.  My mom has a 22kw generac and a few weeks ago the check battery came on.  Turned out to be nothing more than dirty posts.

Cobranut, the liquid cooled models like yours will monitor battery voltage while idle, cranking, or running and cause an alarm depending on the amount of voltage drop and the length of time of low voltage. The air cooled aren't as sophisticated.

Thanks Buckshot, that's great info.

Thank you all for the responses. It is a shame that Generac/Carrier documentation packages, supplied with the unit, omit or open end so much information an end user would benefit from. It would have been nice if my owner’s manual listed the time based messages along with the time interval.  Are there Generac documents that one can purchase for a specific model that contains all the tribal knowledge missing or open ended from the documentation packages supplied with the unit?

Call Ziller Electric and have your serial number ready, they should be able to provide a diagnostic manual, lots of good info and troubleshooting.
