I checked the installation manual about checking fluid level in the battery. Schedule is 6 months. Skip, how often did you have to add fluid when you had the original charging system? I admit that I did not check my battery level often enough, kind of figured how often do you have to check your car battery. Hardly ever.

A certified letter with return receipt to Generac, with a regular mail copy to the CPSC should help.

Companies may be inclined to deny knowledge of a problem due to the potential for significant fines by the CPSC for failure by the manufacturer to report problems (to the CPSC.) The letters mentioned above should take care of this run around.

I found that the battery in my Generac 5416 was losing somewhere around 1/4 inch of fluid level in just a couple of months when running with the OEM battery charger. Since I installed a battery maintainer instead of the OEM charger, I have had to add 1/8 inch of fluid only once in a bit more than two years.

I understand that the newer models have the charger built into the controller, have they worked out the overcharging problem?

I wonder how many Generac employees would testify to that fact under oath as part of a class action lawsuit? My opinion is, and has always been, that Generac should issue a recall on these battery chargers.

they should, but they wont, and as far as class action, the lawyers would get millions and we'd probably get $25 off our next Generac purchase. :(
