i have a customer with a 2014 era 45kw generator and he has questions about oil fill quantity. Hes getting different charts giving him different values as to oil fill quantity with new oil filter. some charts list the engine as holding 4 quarts, some say 6 quarts, and one lists 5.25 quarts.

looking at reference chart on techpro it lists 4 quarts. i tried to download owners manual, but tech pro keeps downloading epa emissions info instead. owner installed 4 quarts, and it doesn't even mark dipstick.

any info would help. hes trying to locate his owners manual

You fill it with oil until the dipstick shows full.  Then start and run the engine 30 seconds give or take.  Then check the dipstick again after the filter has filled.  This is the only way to fill anything, there is no other way.

what threw the owner was some reported posts online that stated that some 45kw units were supplied with the wrong dip sticks... i checked and i found a few posts about this also... we agreed to fill it to dip stick mark and it took 5.25 quarts. he never did find the manual.

If the dipstick is wrong then you have to fix the dipstick.  You can't count on filling it with oil to some certain amount and just leave it, what if it did not drain out 100%?  Then you might have an overfill condition.  How are you supposed to check the oil in between runs?

I can't get more than 5 qts .in the 2.4.

I did not consider that this was a 2.4, that is a strange little dipstick on there isn't it.

Most of the 2.4 units you could get 6 Qts in with a filter change and not be more than 1/16 over the full mark.  Those at least with the long over the top of the engine dipstick.

For the 2.4 liter Mitsubishi I put in 5 qts and 12 oz.
State your problem, not your diagnosis.

thanks. that dipstick is only about 12" long if that. seems odd. doesnt even look like it can make it into oil pan
