My installer finished installing and commissioning my new 20KW Honeywell (by Generac) generator earlier in the week.. Got home the today and decided I’d give it a test. Threw the main breaker, generator started and I started to walk the 80 feet to the unit.

I’m thinking to myself, as I walk, that sounds louder than expected. As I get closer, I’m thinking that does not sound right at all, then when I’m about 10 feet away, BOOM!

Open the lid, there is oil and shrapnel everywhere. Blew a hole in the case somewhere.

Brand new unit, like less than 1h on it. Very frustrating. Hope Generac steps up and replaces it quickly.

Must have been a manufacturing defect. That said, I assume they test in the factory. Ran well for my installer as well. Sigh.

They will cover the problem but they very seldom replace the whole unit, they will have an authorized tech replace the engine. They claim to test each one but I had to replace a rotor on one a couple of weeks ago that would not produce voltage on the 1st start-up.

I think that you will have to get a Honeywell tech as I think they handle their own warranties.

Wow - this forum is unfortunate, lots of dialogue lost, on several occasions, can't retype it all yet again.
