My 16Kw LP Generac generator worked very well last night and this morning; when I went to start it this afternoon it would start and run for 10 seconds then stop with a "overspeed" LED lit steady. I have removed/replaced the fuse, disconneted/reconnected the battery and cyled the switch between Auto/off/Manual. Same condition after four trys.

I have tools and can check voltage, resistance. I can't measure frequency.

I have no power and don't expect it for several days so I'm kinda in a bind here. Thanks for any help.

I think that this Generac Diagnostic Repair Manual would cover your generator. You should find some troubleshooting tips for your problem in it.

Can you check output voltage on wires #11 & #44? These are the output leads going to the circuit breaker. Need to check if unit is actually making ac voltage. If not making ACV it will shut down.

How much oil is in the crankcase? Pull the dipstick and make sure not overfull for some reason. Hope things are not to bad. Wish I could be there to help.

it was just below full when we got it restarted. after running for an hour it took over a quart to get back up to the correct level. I have a little batery left on my computer so im going to see if the bad govenor could cause the oil to get in that part of the engine. very strange.
