I have a 15kW Generac portable. Purchased new........... It has started to run rich at an idle. Light black smoke coning out exhaust and real fummy smelling in a semi closed area.

ITEM# 0045821
Serial# 4381627

I have looked high and low for information on adjusting the carburetor and can't seem to find any. It seem like an adjustment is needed. If anyone can help me out with I would be GREATLY appreciated.

I suggest that you call the folks at Ziller Electric (888) 294-5537 and see if they can locate a manual for you to buy.

A couple of comments:

What do you mean by "fummy smelling"?

It's extremely dangerous (deadly) to run a generator (or anything else with an internal combustion engine) in a semi-closed area. Engines must be outdoors and away from any openings to an enclosed area where any humans or animals reside.

I would check valve adjustment first.

If the unit has been sitting the carb will likely have to be replaced. The ethanol fuel destroys more carburetors than you can imagine. The passages are too small for carb cleaner to get to normally. Sometimes an ultrasonic cleaner will work. Cheapest thing is to replace it if your labor is costing anything.

I would make the same case as Skip, these should never be run in an enclosed are it will kill you!

I agree with Peddler. Ethanol contamination in our fuel supply does a huge amount of damage.

Let's all do something about it here: https://smarterfuelfuture.org/take-action/

SHIPD,

Fummy smelling........ It was supposed the be fume smelling.

No ethanol gas was ever put in the unit. It could be valves I guess, may try to get service manual and adjust them.

0.002 to 0.004 for both intake and exhaust at TDC
