Generac has a band-aid kit for the intermittent power issues. This kit will flash the field all the time with 12 volts. A diode prevents back feed.

I called Ziller today and they have not heard of the kit or the part number that was provided. I was asked to send Ziller an email including the information that I had been provided on the forum and they will try and get more information.

Hoghead, Is that part number a generac part number or does it come from another source?

I ran that number. Its a good number and yes it is a Generac part number for the field boost upfit kit.

exactly the same problem with a 10kw

I have had the same problem with my 10 kw. They have replaced the control board and the voltage regulator. I have ordered the field boost kit mentioned and see if that works.

Did this band aid do it for anyone else? I have a 12KW unit giving me a hard time and I don't know if it's the board or the regulator. Strange thing is it will overspeed with the air cleaner on, overcrank with it off. (EVEY TIME WITHOUT FAIL) I don't understand why?

Field Boost test shows 12VDC and not the 9-10 it says it should be.

The field boost kit is not a bandaid. Most of the units that are having problems are ones with a rotor resistance about 19ohms. The newer units are 9 ohms. The field boost up grade kit is actually the field boost circuit from the water cooled units. Mosts units that are not macking ac are only showing 4-5 vdc out of #4 wire terninal #2 from the control board. If your perform proper testing of the voltage regulator ie manually flash with 12vdc from battery unit goes back to macking acv the field boost kit will resolve your issues.

Will field boost issues cause overspeed and/or overcrank errors? I'm having a heck of a time following the diagnostic tests because of how my particular unit is behaving.

It sounds to me like You're having a problem with the gas regulator. A sticking gas regulator may be feeding extra fuel under vacuum conditions and no fuel under 'no vacuum' conditions when the air cleaner is removed.

I don't know but with a new PCB it runs fine with or without the air cleaner. Still had no AC output but a new regulator took care of that.
