It sounds like you may have a poor connection on the N1/N2 lines between the transfer switch and the generator. Those lines having 240VAC between them is what keeps the generator satisfied that utility power exists.

The poor connection could be in the transfer switch (don't overlook the fuses that are in line with the connections), in the generator, or between the two.

Thanks for the super quick response Skip, I have checked all the connections and all seems good. The generator has not started since I checked the connections. If it happens again I will shut down the power and redo all the "N" connectors. Thanks again for your help.
